The Commission has the exclusive power to allocate and assign all frequencies in the radio spectrum in Solomon Islands. Individuals and organisations operating in the Solomon Islands that transmit and receive radio communications are required to do so in a manner that is consistent with the determinations, orders, regulations or directions of the Commission.
Please consult part 7 of the pdf Telecommunications Act (2009) (627 KB) for more details.
The Commission ensures that the radio spectrum is managed and used in a manner that is open, non-discriminatory, competitively neutral, objective, consistent with international standards, efficient, progressive and in line with the needs of government departments.
In carrying out this function, the Commission is required by the Act to establish a liaison committee to handle allocation and assignment of radio spectrum, and to hold public enquiries and consult service providers (among others) and work with other countries and international organisations.
