The Telecommunications Act 2009 was enacted in the Solomon Islands Parliament in September 2009.

As noted in the Minister’s Second Reading Speech “The Government’s policy for telecommunications has two overriding objectives. First to achieve rapid expansion of telecommunications infrastructure and services in the Solomon Islands and make available to the population the widest possible range of efficient, reliable and affordable telecommunications services competitively provided in a fairly regulated market. Second, to enhance the national economic and social development by promoting ongoing development and effective utilisation of telecommunications in the Solomon Islands …”

The Telecommunications Act provides the overarching framework for achieving these objectives.
